October 21st – a day remembered
Oct. 21, 2021. A day many of us will not forget. And as much as we could talk about the memories from that day, it's much more important to see "where" we have progressed since that day. As many of you know, God has moved me (literally) to your community. And one would think that would be a huge adjustment from the farm, or from Omaha (where I spent the past year), however, it has been nothing but true comfort. Many of you seem to know who I am, and this girl is still trying to get to know you and hopefully remember your name. (Grief has made my brain a little mushy.)
And I know many of you are still healing from this tragedy of 2 years ago as well as some of your own life's trials. Life can be so very hard and sometimes seem so very cruel. And some things just don't make any earthly sense.
I get that.
So, what have I learned about this community? Strength, for one.
Your strength, as a community, has spoken volumes to me over the past 2 years. And to live here and truly see that strength in action, is nothing short of humbling. Superior has always held a spot in my heart, but now you are family.
I have met some of the kindest people through this journey. And whenever I have needed anything...an electrician, a plumber, a garage door expert, tree trimmers, a friend, etc., I must say, I've been guided to some of the most neighborly folks I have ever met.
"The Garden of Peace," in Lincoln Park, was dedicated one year ago, with the sole purpose to be a place of comfort and healing to this community. I am so very grateful to see it getting that use. Our families will always be grateful to the first responders, police, hospital, etc., from that day. And never forget that God "hand-picked" you for that task...on that day. HE knew your inner strength and resilience. HE knew you would make a difference. Many of you I have yet to meet personally. I pray if our paths cross, you will take time to introduce yourself and tell me your story.
As we begin another year on this healing journey, I just want to encourage you to lean on God. HE is the one that has gotten me this far...and has brought me to Superior. Without Him I would be nothing more than a puddle. May we continue to lift each other up, encourage each other, pray for each other, and love each other as only family can do.
Your strength will become my strength.
