East side buildings change

There are changes underway on the east side of Superior. The state highway department plans to add a turning lane on Highway 8. Scott Sales and Service has moved into the building that was built in the 1950s to house a Ford tractor dealership, two new buildings have recently been constructed and other properties are for sale.

Throughout the summer, construction has been underway on a new ready-mix concrete plant. The new plant will replace one originally located in the East Side Industrial Subdivision more than 40 years ago. While the ownership of the company operating the plant has not changed, the operating name of the company has changed. For many years the concrete plant was operated as Quality Red-D-Mix which was a subsidiary of Werner Construction. In more recent times, the Werner company consolidated all of its concrete plant operations under the name of Consolidated Concrete.

Bostwick Irrigation is now outfitting a new building located along the south side of the Superior Canal and west of Hartley Street. It is east of the building the district has used since irrigation came to the valley in the early 1950s.

The district’s maintenance staff and ditch riders serving the eastern portion of the canal system will utilize the buildings and maintenance yard.

And more changes are probably coming, we just don’t know what they are. The warehouse and office building constructed on the north side of Third Street in the 1960s to house a Walnut Grove feed distribution warehouse is for sale. It’s most recent tenant used it to house an insurance agency office.

The City of Superior now owns the former petroleum tank farm property that adjoins the Kottmeyer Business Park and is attempting to market it for commercial development. It has been named Kottmeyer Business Park North.
