L-N volleyball wins one and loses three

The Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team has the right to question why the Nebraska School Activities Association bothers with classifications. The Raiders are in Class D-2. This is determined by enrollment. One look at their schedule belies this fact. The Raiders have games against five D2 schools. They go against 11 D1 schools, five C2 schools and a C1 school. Since wild card points are one way to qualify for a spot at districts, Lawrence-Nelson is behind before they begin. In spite of this they rank higher in the wild card race than schools with a winning record while they sit with a 6-13 record. Their only option is to sweep through sub-district and district play to qualify for the state match. This reporter sees them with a strong possibility of doing just that.

The Raiders played at the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament last Tuesday and Thursday. You guessed it. They played four C2 schools with winning records. They played a single D1 school.

The Raiders fell to in-county rival Superior in two sets, 26-28 and 13-25 last Tuesday. It took the Wood River Eagles three sets, 25-20. 17-25 and 23-25, to put the Raiders away. Hastings St. Cecilia swept the Raiders, 9-25 and 16-25, in two sets Thursday. Cross County handed the Raiders a two set, 13-25 and 19-25, loss. Lawrence-Nelson took the measure of Heartland Community in two sets, 25-21 and 25-18.
