Roger L. Nelson died Sept. 20, 2023, in Superior, Nebraska, after a brave battle with myelo- fibrosis.
Roger was born in Omaha on Oct. 30, 1934, and was the adopted son of Everett and Blanche Nelson. He was baptized at the Nora United Methodist Church and confirmed at the Davenport United Methodist Church. He graduated from Davenport High School. He was blessed with a beautiful voice, and he enjoyed singing throughout his life.
In 1956, he married Dorothy Keim. During their marriage, three daughters were born. He later married Nancy Utecht and gained two stepsons. In 1995, he married Linda West and gained two more stepchildren.
Roger thoroughly enjoyed farming in the Davenport area and later the Riverton area. He was a member and officer of the Nuckolls County Livestock Feeders. He also held county Farm Bureau offices and served on the state board for four years. He was also a longtime member of the Lions Club and Elks Club.
More recently, in addition to contributing his service, Roger valued the friendships he made while serving on the Lower Republican NRD board for 23 years and the Nebraska Association of Resource Districts board for 19 years.
Roger and Linda stayed for many winters in Arizona where they enjoyed the weather and expanding their circle of friends. In recent years, he enjoyed meeting his coffee friends each morning and singing with the Pope's People.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Mark; grandson, Logan; and great-grandson, Samuel.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda; daughters, Deb (Robert) Folkerts, Julie (Todd) Jensen, Carla (Ray) Werner, stepchildren, Matt Utecht, Nicole Burgess and Brad Burgess. He is also survived by six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of dear friends.
A Celebration of Life was held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Megrue-Price Funeral Home with Pastor Natalie Faust officiating with Pastor Cara Jensen assisting.
Music was "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You," "Precious Lord Take My Hand," "Softly & Tenderly" and "Amazing Grace," with Stephanie Thayer as soloist and Teresa Christensen as her accompanist.
Pallbearers were Tyler Jensen, Connor Jensen, Spencer Werner, Aaron Oltmans, Clint Havel and Quentin Penner.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to go to Risen Life Fellowship Church.
