The Rock Hills High School cross country team opened the season at the Tescott Invitational last Wednesday. The Grizzlies are fielding a team for the first time in several years as they have previously competed as part of a cooperative program with Pike Valley.
The boys team took third place in the 5K race. Trystyn Reynolds finished 14th. Kobi Bowers took 21st place. Spencer Lindberg held 25th place. Cruz Navarro was in 33rd place with Noah Eakins following in 34th place.
Hannah Simmelink medaled in the girls 5K with her seventh place finish.
Kiplee Kussman took fifth place and Treyton Reynolds was in ninth place in the boys junior varsity race.
Chloe Rothchild finished in fifth place in the girls junior varsity race.
Shannon Meier, coach, said, “The team is a young team with only three of the boys having run cross country in the past. Six runners are participating in cross country for the first time.”
The team faces a grueling week ahead. They will compete at the Washington Invitational today (Thursday). They travel to Wamego for the Wamego Invitational Friday. The Wamego course is challenging as it is the site of the state championship meet. Meier has high hopes for the runners as the season progresses and they gain experience.
