The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) Board met Aug. 28, at the Mankato Christian Church and on ZOOM. The meeting was called to order by Thadd Hinkle. Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Janelle Greene, Phyllis Christie, Janis McDill, Sarah Ortman and Virgil and Linda Jones in person and Lisa Goodheart and Kristin Underwood by ZOOM.
Janis McDill presented the treasurer’s report stating JCCI had a net income of $1,810 last month. She stated “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One,” “Haunted Mansion” and “Oppenheimer” are paid for. Discussion was held on finances.
In old business, discussion was held on the Aug. 19 ice cream social fundraiser. A wonderful crowd attended and more ice cream will be provided next year. It was decided to bag the servings of cookies and brownies. Discussion was held on making some changes to the games. The fundraiser brought in $1,794.17 and more donations are coming in.
Lisa Goodheart volunteered to contact Gleason and Sons Glass for ideas about repairing the neon on the marquee. Janis will pursue finding out if the city will list the marquee on the insurance policy for the building. More volunteers are needed to run the theater.
In new business, Janis said “Sound of Freedom” will be shown on the fourth weekend in September. Phyllis Christie said she has had contact with a church that may want to help sponsor the movie. The council will have to pay for 10 adult tickets at $12 each in order to receive the movie. Phyllis said the lack of volunteers to run the movie, especially projectionists, is at a critical stage. Thadd and Patrick Christie are involved with home games and the student volunteers are sometimes too busy. Thadd said he made an appeal to the students to become volunteers. Kristin Underwood said Ervin replaced the railing in the concessions area. Janis said the board received an invitation to an informational event sponsored by the Jewell County Community Foundation to be held on Sept. 27. Kristin and Lisa encouraged the other board members to attend the meeting, as they will be there as Foundation Board members. Contact Phyllis if you are interested in volunteering.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 25.
