A "Quilt of Valor" was presented to Nancy Ostdiek of Lawrence Monday evening at the quarterly meeting of the Bishop Casey Assembly 599, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Mrs. Roger Retzlaff and Mrs. Leland Weber presented the quilt as recognition of her service in the military. A brief summary of her service life in the late 1960s was read. Nancy served in the Air Force as a nurse and was the daughter of an Army Air Force pilot who spent 10 months in a Germany Prison of War camp at the end of World War Two. She was born while he was a POW.
Most of the Ostdiek family joined the KC group for dinner and the presentation.
The meeting saw new officers inducted to lead Assembly 599 for the next two years. State officer Leland Weber inducted the new officers. Mr. Rob Unruh from the Superior Knights of Columbus Council is the new Faithful Navigator for Assembly 599.
At the meeting, the Assembly voted to assist the KC relief effort in Hawaii with a donation of $200.00 and also made a donation to Spirit Catholic Radio of $100.00. (To date, the Knights of Columbus in the U. S. has donated over $200,000 for the Hawaii relief effort.)
The next meeting of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will be November 6 in Geneva for the annual Memorial Mass for deceased members of the Assembly.
