I can’t remember much of last week, all I know was that Friday was a busy day. Jacob loaded up the truck and headed out for North Carolina. He had planned to drive straight through but thankfully stopped for the night about halfway. He arrived late Saturday evening and was moved into his new barracks by Sunday evening. He was reunited with two of his buddies, and they spent Labor Day on the beach.
George spent Friday afternoon running after his boys. Both boys had the weekend off, so he went to get them for our regular visit. Nicky was hired to be an umpire for one of the many baseball leagues and is excited to have his first job. Jack had to work on Monday, so they had to return home on Sunday. He was not so excited about being the low man on the totem pole and having to work the holiday. I got a good laugh out of that, I don’t think I’ve ever had a job where I got holidays off.
Robert and Julia stayed the better part of Thursday and Friday moving Julia out of her house in Concordia. She took a job in Junction City, and was waiting on an apartment to open up there, but had to be out of her house on the first. They had purchased a puppy as well, and the puppy had to be picked up on the first. She is staying with her sister in Junction, but the pup can’t stay there, so guess who gets the puppy. Me! At first, she was supposed to be able to move in on the fifth, but that was pushed back to the eighth.
The pup’s name is Freya, and she is absolutely adorable. She is an Australian Shepard, and Brittney cross-breed, and about three months old. On Friday when they got here, all she wanted to do was sleep. Now that she is more comfortable, she is more like a tornado. She jumps, chews and plays, and then crashes at my feet. The first night, she pooped on my bedroom rug. The second day, she got excited and piddled on my couch. The third night, she puked on my bed but has both George and me wrapped around her little paw.
She is getting better at maneuvering the stairs, but her butt still manages to get ahead of her ears and she tends to go head over tea kettle on the last few steps. I am thankful I do not have to carry her up and down anymore, but she is always under my feet and may kill me on the stairs. We have grown attached to each other and I will be sad on Friday when Julia picks her up.
I miss my Pepper dog, but had forgotten how much work a puppy can be. Pepper was with me for 17 years and as much as I’d like to have another, it will be a few years before I make that type of commitment again. X’s & O’s.
