L-N volleyball goes 2-1 at Axtell Invite

The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders volleyball team opened their season with a grueling three match day at the Axtell Invitational Saturday.

The Class D-2 Raiders were pitted against D-1 Axtell and Silver Lake, both with winning records. Medicine Valley is a D-2 school.

All three matches went to three sets.

Lawrence-Nelson opened with a three set, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-21, three set win over the Silver Lake Mustangs. The Axtell Wildcats downed the Raiders in three sets, 20-25, 30-28 and 25-21. The Medicine Valley Raiders fell to Lawrence-Nelson in three sets, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-22.

Kara Menke was the top killer for the Raiders against Silver Lake with 13. Sydney Biltoft recorded 12 kills for the match. Hanna Skinner put up seven kills. Natalia Wehrman posted six kills. Vali Koehler had three kills while Claire Himmelberg posted two kills.

Menke lashed through two aces. Biltoft, Himmelberg, Addi McCloskey and Jessica Sole accounted for an ace apiece.

Menke swept the floor for 18 digs. Himmelberg picked up 14 digs. Skinner took care of 12 digs. Sole had four digs. Koehler and McCloskey handled two digs each. Brook Combs-Glebe and Wehrman had a dig each.

Biltoft led the killers against Axtell with 14. Menke and Skinner made seven kills apiece. Wehrman handled four kills. Himmelberg had two kills.

Himmelberg and Menke scored two aces apiece. McCloskey added an ace.

Menke and Skinner picked up 12 digs each. Biltoft and McCloskey were good for 11 digs each. Himmelberg and Sole finished the matsch with four digs apiece.

Menke put away 16 kills against Medicine Valley for the Raiders. Biltoft and Skinner turned in eight kills apiece. Wehrman posted four kills. Himmelberg listed three kills. Koehler had one kill.

Himmelberg scored with two aces. Menke and Skinner added an ace apiece.

Skinner hit the floor for 20 digs. Himmelberg turned in 10 digs. Biltoft and McCloskey collected seven digs each. Koehler and Sole had three digs each.

The Raiders travel to Superior today (Thursday) for the intracounty bragging rights game. The Raiders host Exeter-Milligan-Friend at Lawrence Tuesday.
