Rain soaks wide area Friday; delays football game til Saturday

The general rain this area has been wanting for months arrived Friday night in time to cause the rescheduling of area football games. The Superior vs. Lawrence-Nelson game being played on Brodstone Field had less than 3 minutes left in the first quarter when it was delayed by lightining. The teams and student groups were moved to the school for shelter and fans were encouraged to go to their vehicles. After being delayed for an hour or so, it was decided to reschedule the game for Saturday morning. But that wasn’t an easy task as an officiating crew had to be secure. At first it was hoped the game could resume at 11:30 but Saturday morning the re-start time was moved back to 12:30.

The Friday start time had been delayed from 7 to 8 p.m. because of the heat. Heat was not a problem Saturday as the widespread rain broke the heat’s chokehold.

The rain didn’t arrive in time to help the non-irrigated corn crop and likely was late for many of the soybean fields. However, it did green the grass and freshen the air.
