Commissioners discuss qualifications for dispatchers

The Jewell County Commissioners met Aug. 14. Commissioners Brent Beck, Keith Roe and Ed Duskie were present with Carla Waugh, county clerk, present for the meeting.

Steven Melnick, Colonial Life Agent, asked if the commissioners were interested in providing an employer paid group term life insurance policy for all employees. He said they also provide additional life insurance for employees to purchase along with the health advocate program and it’s portable with conversion and waiver premium.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, said they are laying asphalt on the third mile of Y Road on the north side of Lovewell Lake. The road would be closed part of the week. He said the mower tractor is being repaired.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, discussed hiring qualifications for dispatchers. The commissioners waived the high school diploma or GED requirement for the dispatcher new hire for this time.
