Brodstone Community Wellness will be hosting a Stepping On, fall prevention program at the Superior Auditorium. Classes will begin Wednesday, Sept. 20, and run every Wednesday from approximately 10 to 11:30 a.m. The Stepping On program will be hosted in collaboration with South Heartland District Health Department and the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging.
Throughout the program there will be visits from guest experts including: physical therapy, pharmacy, optometry and a safety expert. The experts will provide education which can help to reduce falls. Along with the presentations from guest experts, participants will learn balance and strength exercises to do on a daily and weekly basis.
All participants will complete a (pre) fall risk assessment to learn their personal risk of having a fall prior to beginning the program. A (post) fall risk assessment will be done after the completion of the 7-week program to note any improvements.
Stepping On is an evidence-based program, meaning it has been proven to be successful in reducing falls in older adults. For more information about Stepping On or to sign up for the program, call Brodstone’s Rehabilitation Department at 402-207-1082 and visit with Jamie Robinett, PTA or Jacki Siebecker, wellness director.
