The Jewell County Cinema. Board met July 31, at the Mankato Christian Church and on Zoom and was called to order by Thadd Hinkle.
Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Phyllis Christie, Janis McDill, and Kristing Underwood in person. Lisa Goodheart and Sarah Ortman attended via Zoom.
Janis McDill presented the treasurer’s report stating JCCI had only $127 in income for the last month. She said “Spiderman: Across the Spider Verse” is paid for, but showing has been delayed because of the air conditioning situation.
Discussion was held on the Aug. 19 ice cream social fundraiser. More volunteers are needed to run the theater.
In new business, discussion was held on upcoming movies. Janis McDill said she has contacted Angel Studios and they have the Ute on the list to show “Sound of Freedom.” The showing will probably be after Labor Day weekend. The board decided to not show “Oppenheimer” on Labor Day weekend, but plan to show it at a later date. Janis will try to book “Haunted Mansion” for Labor Day weekend to kick off the movie season. Other suggestions were “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One” and “Teenage Mutant Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.”
Discussion was held on holding some movies over for two weekends. Kristin Underwood brought up the idea of “Way Back Wednesdays” where an older movie could be shown for a suggested donation. Wednesdays are usually reserved for church activities, so Sunday night was considered.
The air conditioning compressor will need to be replaced and discussion was held on asking the City of Mankato to help with the cost. It was also brought to the board’s attention that the marquee is not included in the City’s insurance policy even though it is attached to the building.
A volunteer sign up sheet will be available at the fundraiser in August. Discussion was held on different ways donations for the theater could be generated, including a website or maybe a link on the Mankato Chamber of Commerce website.
Kristin had attended an older theater in Iowa and showed a picture of a stage they had at the front of the theater. The board has discussed having a permanent stage installed and this type of stage would work.
Contact Phyllis if you are interested in volunteering.
The next meeting will be Monday, Aug. 28.
