Dr. Robert Leibel retires after 37 years

Brodstone announces retirement of Dr. Robert Leibel

After 37 years of practice at Brodstone Healthcare, Dr. Robert Leibel, M.D., has officially retired as of July 31, 2023.

Dr. Leibel's passion for healthcare began at a young age, as his father was a family practice physician and his mother was a nurse. He received his education from Creighton University School of Medicine and continued his residency program in Omaha through St. Joseph's Hospital.

"I took a residency in family medicine and saw that it was the field I wanted to go into. We drew our names out of a hat to decide what little town we were going to go to and my name came up Superior. I didn't even know where Superior was," Dr. Leibel added. The first day of his rotation in Superior he met his wife Ged, a nurse at Brodstone. In 1986, Dr. Leibel started his career at Brodstone alongside Doctors Dennis Hatch and Timothy Blecha. Dr. Leibel and Ged (Waddle) wed in 1987 and together they raised four boys – AP, Aaron, Adin and AJ.

Dr. Leibel credits his patients, fellow providers and other support staff for making his career so fulfilling. He has fond memories of delivering babies, providing life-saving, critical care in the emergency department and caring for patients across their lifespan.

"I have been blessed with a great staff, a modern up-to-date hospital, talented colleagues and wonderful patients," said Dr. Robert Leibel. "Thank you for putting your trust in me for your medical care and needs over the last 37 years. It has been a great ride!"

His plans for retirement include spending more time with his family, traveling, fishing, golfing and enjoying his granddaughter, Hayden. Brodstone Healthcare encourages the public to join them in celebration of Dr. Leibel's retirement at the Superior Auditorium from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6
