In existence since 1922, the Mankato Golf Course has had many improvements done - 100 percent by volunteers. Volunteers consisted mostly of board members and course members. The Mankato Golf Course is considered one of the nicest sand green golf courses in the state and is the home to multiple high school individual and team state championships.
The fees for the golf course vary, starting at $5 for daily green fees, $55 for a single person membership, a family membership for $110, and junior memberships of $30.
Most of the materials for the improvements were donated by members. The improvements made to the course consist of a new bridge built on hole No. 2 in the spring of 2022, a new bridge built on hole No. 9 this spring, and new tee box markers that were constructed and installed this spring. The tee box on hole No. 7 was completely rebuilt, widened and seeded in the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023 seasons. Golfers on the course may also notice the underground sprinkler systems installed on all tee boxes that were put in the fall of 2022.
Part of Garret Barry’s Eagle Scout Project was putting in a new pay and information kiosk that was built this spring. Also this spring, the champions sign display was refubished, and the clubhouse exterior was repainted. New laminate flooring was installed in the kitchen area of the clubhouse this summer. Also this summer there was new facing and a countertop put on the kitchen counter island. Other improvements made were a new refrigerator purchased and a new freezer that was donated last summer by Lyle and Cathy Dauner.
Board members of the golf course are: Mark Hurd, president; Cregg Jeffery, vice president; Brian Shulda, secretary-treasurer; Travis Koester; Justin Schoonover; Jamie Harvey; and Dan Higer. If you need a little exercise, want to brush up on your golfing game, or are thinking about starting a new hobby, grab your clubs and head out to the Mankato Golf Course and take in the improvements
