Ross Andrew Gilchrist wasthe author of the Encyclopedia of Men’s Clothes and creator of the website AskAndyAboutClothes.com, the most popular website in the world for men’s clothing advice.
He was born in Kingman, Kansas, to Kathleen Marie and Harold Ross Gilchrist, Dec. 8, 1943.
He graduated from Kingman High School and earned two degrees – sociology and journalism from Kansas State University.
He married Malinda Rose Crispin in 1969. Both were sociology majors at Kansas State University.
He worked in advertising for several years beginning after graduation at Hutchinson News, Hutchinson, Kansas. He moved to California in 1968, and did display advertising for the Daily Breeze in Torrance, California, was an account executive for Parker Advertising in Palos Verdes, California and then was advertising manager for O’Keefe and Merritt, Filon, and Pioneer Electronics of America.
He then switched careers and worked for the City of Manhattan Beach in the community development department where he did code enforcement, building department functions and was a civilian fire marshall.
His last career was in occupational safety and fire protection engineers for TRW, at Redondo Beach, California.
After retiring he started writing his book and developed the website.
Interment was in the Webber Cemetery at Webber, Kansas, on June 10, 2023.
