Nelson Fun Days are coming up this weekend, July 1 and 2. The event is sponsored annually by the Nelson Community Club, and its fun day for the whole family.
The event which mainly takes part in Harbine Park, starts out with a free will donation breakfast at 7 a.m. The fun run-walk-bike begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the washers tournament at 9:30 a.m. Lunch this year will be prepared by the Sacred Heart Altar Society.
A new event for this year’s festivities is the Corgi Races. The race will be held in the baseball field and sign in begins at 10:30.
Kids games begin at 12:30, and sand volleyball and horseshoes beginning at 1 p.m. From 1 to 4:30 you can enjoy a free dip in the pool and watch the cardboard boat races that end the free swim.
At 5 p.m., the fire department will be putting on a free will donation Hamburger feed, and at 7 p.m., join the Nelson Auxiliary for bingo, or head over to the beverage garden provided by the Elk Creek Country Club and take your sweetheart for a two step around the tennis courts.
Get your seat early around the football field because at sundown on Saturday the Nelson Volunteer Fire Department will be putting on their annual fireworks display.
Sunday’s main event will be held at the Elk Creek County Club with two man par 3 golf starting at 10 a.m. and two man full round beginning at 2 p.m. Lunch will be prepared by the PEO and served in the clubhouse instead of the extension office parking lot.
On Tuesday, July 4th the Lawrence American Legion will be having its 9th annual chicken BBQ from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. If chicken is not your thing, they also have a hamburger meal available. Also on Tuesday, the Nelson Volunteer Fire Department will be having a free will donation pork BBQ in the Nelson Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. With so many options, why choose one!
