Shirley Ann Carlton, 87, of Wichita Falls, Texas, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 19, 2023.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today (Thursday, June 22), at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dale Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Shirley was born on May 13, 1936, in Mitchell County, Kansas, to the late Lyle Swinton and Ruby Swinton Clark. She married Kenneth Carlton on July 30, 1952, in Mankato, Kansas. They were married for 56 years until his death in 2009.
She was the operations manager of JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts in Wichita Falls for many years until her retirement. Shirley was a devout Christian woman, and attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was devoted to her family, and her door was always open to anyone. Shirley loved to cook, and made it her mission to feed anyone who needed a meal. She was a wonderful "Nanny" to all. Her true passion in life was her family. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Evelyn Swinton; two sisters; and two brothers.
Shirley is survived by children, Calvin Carlton and wife, Judy, of Wichita Falls, Rocklin Carlton (Rockie) of Wichita Falls, Tammy Dray and husband, Doug, of Iowa Park, Sondra Carlton of Wichita Falls, and Rhonda Parker and husband, Mike, of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Cody Carlton, Zack Carlton, Rachel McWilliams, Thomas Caian Foster, Cory Coleman, McKenna Moreno, Brad Coleman, Walt Coleman, Mitchell Parker, and Mason Parker; numerous great-grandchildren; and her beloved pet, Gabby Grace.
The family requests that memorial donations be made in Shirley's name to Hospice of Wichita Falls, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, or Shriner's Children's Hospitals.
