T-shirts are being printed for an estimated 300 participants and the registration form for the 41st annual Superior FireKracker Run is included in this week’s newspaper. As usual the event will be held on July 4 which this year comes on a Tuesday. Some neighboring community are holding their Independence Day observations on the weekend.
As in past years, the race will start with the lighting of firecrakers on the south side of City Park. The participants will run west but routes will vary based upon the length of the scheduled run.
Classes will include a one mile run for boys and girls with divisions for those six and under, 7 and 8, 9 and 10 and 11 and 12.
The one-mile predict, in which participants predict their time, will be open to all ages.
There will be a two-mile run including both men and women with divisions for 13 and under, 14 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and over.
The 10-K run will also be open to both men and women and will include the same age divisions as the two-mile run.
Early registrations are to be postmarked not later than Saturday, June 24. Sponsors encourage all participants to pre-register either by mail or on-line.
The local PEO Chapter will be serving breakfast in the park after 7:30 p.m.
The race had 275 participants in 2022. This year a number of awards and cash prizes will be awarded.
The annual fireworks show sponsored by the Superior Volunteer Fire Department will conclude Superior’s July 4th celebration. The show will be held at Brodstone Memorial Field starting at dusk.
As the date draws nearer, we expect more events may be announced.
The Lawrence American Legion Post will hold their ninth annual July 4th barbecued chicken feed that day with serving from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The annual Chesterfest Celebration is planned for this Friday and Saturday. Friday events include concessions, an evening meal, volleyball tournament and foam party.
Saturday events begin at 8 a.m. with both breakfast and a 5K run. There will be inflatables, concessions, a golf cart rally, vendor fair, car show, sand volleyball games, food and fireworks. The headline event will the appearance of the Blackhawk band with Bourbon Street and Tommy Watt.
This summer the Nuckolls County Historical Society Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
