Summer golf camp in Superior

The Superior Country Club hosted the annual Superior Youth Golf Camp last Tuesday and Wednesday.

The weather cooperated for the 36 attendees. Participants at the camp came from the age groups of five through 13 years of age in the Superior school system as well as from Geneva.

The first day of camp was dedicated to the basics of rules of golf scoring and club selection. The campers then worked on their driving, chipping and putting skills.

Day two was dedicated to the driving, chipping and putting contests for boys and girls in age brackets of five to seven years, eight to 10 years and 11 to 13 years of age.

The winner of the girl's 5-7 group was Stella Crockett while Cruz Blevins was the boys winner. Harper Tatro was the winner in the 8-10 group with Holden Kuhlmann winning the boys group. Sophia Flaata was the 11-13 girls winner. Gabe Townsend won the boys contest.

The camp was hosted by Kirk Utecht, club superintendent and Superior High School boys golf coach, and Brittney Carpenter, girls golf coach.

The coaches were assisted by a number of volunteers including Logan Crockett, Jim Peterson, Josh Peterson, Randy Schultz, Adam Sunday, Ron Thayer, Colten Butler, Cooper Ehlers and Rayne Biltoft.

The camp was sponsored by Brodstone Healthcare. They generously provided prizes and gifts. The importance of safety in areas such as hydration and skin protection as well as insect bites.

Brodstone Healthcare also provided a hot lunch at no charge for the camp attendees.
