Kohmetcher graduates from West Point

The West Point Military Academy in West Point, New York, is the oldest military school in the United States. Like its similar schools for the other branches of the military, being able to attend the school is no small fete. Requirements are tough. Then, if accepted, the ‘wash-out’ rate is high.

However, the community of Lawrence now has a connection to the school as a grandson of current Lawrence residents, Dick and Marge Kohmetscher, is now a graduate of the school. Max Kohmetscher was one of a class of 940 graduates and graduated with distinction, meaning he had a GPA of 3.65 or higher.

Two weeks ago, Max Kohmetscher, son of Scott and Stacy Kohmetscher of York, Nebraska, completed his four years of schooling at the academy. Max was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Army and will be assigned to duty in the Army’s Armored Division at Fort Benning, Georgia. After nine months in Georgia, he is expecting to be assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado. Max’s major field of study at the academy was military history.

Besides his parents and grandparents attending, his brother, Sam, was there. Also enjoying the celebration were Tim and Lisa Williams, Alex and Kelsey of Kearney; Diane Anstine, Terry Anstine and Suzi and Alex Anstine of Hastings and Wes and Brenda Christensen and Zachary, also of Hastings.
