So we bought a new car. No, I’m not having a midlife crisis, it may look as though I am, but I promise I am not. It’s a Mini Cooper, and it’s red with a white top. It’s a cute little thing with an awful lot of get up and go for a four cylinder vehicle.
A few weeks ago I started to worry, what if one of our high mileage vehicles were to give out on us. I really did not want to go down the car payment hole again, but having reliable transportation is a must.
I had been looking at Volkswagen Beaeles, but nothing I found met my criteria. I swore I wouldn’t go in the hole for something with over 100,000 miles, and I wasn’t spending more than $5,000. I also wanted something that got good gas mileage, wasn’t a mom car and had a sunroof. I don’t want for much, LOL! The Mini checked all the boxes, and, better yet, was husband approved.
I’ve always had to shop for a vehicle with our youngsters in mind, they are all long legged, and honestly we should have gotten a Suburban instead of the Mazda, but I went with better gasoline mileage and the proper number of seatbelts instead. All that equaled very uncomfortable accommodations for long trips, we all rode with our knees touching our chins to New York, but we got good gasoline mileage! LOL!
I said when the youngsters were grown I would get myself a cute little car. Now that three of the four have left the nest, I decided it was time I could do just that. We purchased the Mini for under $5,000, and it has under 70,000 miles on it. It’s not perfect, it has some cosmetic issues but it is mechanically sound. Its the first car I have ever owned with under 100,000 miles, so I am feeling pretty proud of myself. LOL!
Now, if I could quit driving it, and let it sit pretty in the driveway, all would be good.
I had planned on selling my Fusion, Bessy, but after driving it the other day I changed my mind. Plus, Nicholas, the youngest, said, “You can’t sell it, I never got to drive it!” So I will keep her just in case Nicky were to move here and need a school car. Until then, the Fusion will be my daily driver, and we will see how many miles she can go. Bessy is the most comfortable car ever! Probably why she has so many miles on her.
As far as daily life, between the pool and the grass, aka weeds, I’ve been keeping really busy. The rain we got was wonderful, but keep praying for more. X’s & O’s.
P.S. On another note, my mom worked very hard all winter getting the crosses and flowers ready for Memorial Day. Every year she decorates the graves of family members, just like my grandma did. The flowers and crosses were getting worn out and looking shabby, and she did not have the money to replace them. She took them apart and repainted each cross and remade the flower arrangements on them from flowers she had or that were sent to her by other family members. She marked each one with her name. When she went out to pick them up after the holiday, one was missing. After scouring the cemetery, it was found on another grave with her name tag pealed off. To whomever did this, shame on you! Next time call the number on the back, my mother will give you one to use. X’s & O’s.
