Downtown Benches
This week 13 additional benches manufactured in Superior by Superior Industries were installed. When the work is completed, all of the street light poles between Second and Fifth streets along Central Avenue will have the circular benches.
Twelve of 13 installed this week have been paid for either as memorials or in honor of a person or thing. Engraved plates will be added to the benches in recognition of those honored. Of the 13 being installed this month, there is still an opportunity to sponsor one of the benches. The other 12 have sponsors.
The benches are part of an ongoing community enhancement project sponsored by the Superior 3000 Foundation. The goal is install similar benches around all the light poles between Second and Fifth streets. The first benches were installed about a year ago at Fourth and Central. That installation also included planters and planters will be added in other locations if donors step forward. The current push has been to secure the benches prior to the Lady Vestey Festival.
Superior 3000 shares office space with the Superior Chamber of Commerce at 430 Central. The foundation office is open on Tuesday mornings and other times by appointment. The office telephone number is 308-520-1372.
Cameron Vzorick is the foundation's chief executive officer.
The foundation is currently sponsoring an open house for Superior High School Alumni and friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at 430 Central. During the open house, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be formally presented to David and Kim Williams.
