Superior sends four to Nebraska state track meet

Girls finish third in district competition

Thayer Central High School, Hebron, hosted the District C-7 track and field meet Thursday The meet determines the qualifiers for the state meet at Omaha.

The girls teams finished in third place, with 88.5 points, in the nine team field of Hastings St. Cecilia, Milford, Doniphan-Trumbull, Tri County, Sutton, Thayer Central, Wilber-Clatonia and Fillmore Central. The boys finished in 10th place, with two points. Southern did not enter a girls team.

The top two finishers in individual events earn a trip to state. Automatic qualifiers are available to those who meet certain benchmarks. The first place relay team qualifies for the state meet.

Ella Gardner led the Superior state qualifiers as she earned a place in four events with first place finishes in those events. Sadie Rempel, Madison Heusinkvelt and Atlee Kobza qualified for the event.

Gardner claimed first place in the 100 meter dash with her time of 12.4 seconds. Khloe Mundorf was in third place with her time of 13 seconds. Sadie Cornell finished in eighth place with a time of 13.99 seconds.

Gardner nailed down first place in the 200 meter dash with her time of 25.75 seconds. Ariana Heusinkvelt and Halle Bargen did not advance to the final heat.

Faith Butler was in fifth place in the 400 meter dash with her time of 1:06.37. Ava Kirchhoff failed to reach the final heat.

Hailey Blecha competed in the 3200 meter run.

Khloe Mundorf finished in fifth place in the 100 meter hurdles with her time of 17.3 seconds.

Cora Schnakenberg took part in the 300 meter hurdles.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of A. Heusinkvelt, Mundorf, Bargen and Cornell were in second place with their time of 52.5 seconds.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Bargen, Butler, Schnakenberg and Laci Kirchhoff took seventh place with their time of 4:40.53.

M. Heusinkvelt qualified for state with her second place toss of 37'6.5" for the shot put. Lilly Edwards and A. Heusinkvelt also competed in the shot put.

Atlee Kobza will be headed for Omaha with her second place finish in the discus with her throw of 119". M. Heusinkvelt was in sixth place with her throw of 108'5". Mia Gardner took part in the discus throw.

L. Kirchhoff was in eighth place in the high jump with her height of 4'5".

Sadie Rempel will showcase her pole vault skills at Omaha. She was in second place with her height of 10'8".

Gardner landed first place in the long jump with her distance of 19'4.25". A. Heusinkvelt was in sixth place with her jump of 15'6.5". A. Kirchhoff also competed.

Gardner topped the triple jump field with her combined distance of 38'1.5" A. Kirchhoff and L. Kirchhoff also participated in the triple jump.

James Love, Lincoln Sander and Dylan Edwards competed in the 100 meter dash.

Aaron Allgood and Thomas Mathis ran the 200 meter dash.

Kyler Boyles and Declan Miller participated in the 400 meter dash.

Tanner Theis and EJ Uvslokk took part in the 800 meter run.

Dereck Kirchhoff ran the 1600 meter run.

Love finished in seventh place in the 110 meter hurdles with his time of 16.8 seconds. Boyles ran a preliminary heat.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Allgood, Jacob Meyer, Tanner Theis and Love were in seventh place with their time of 48.65 seconds.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Allgood, Meyer, Theis and Sander finished in sixth place with their time of 4:04.02.

Luke Jameson and Christian Osweiller competed in the shot put.

Jameson, Dayne Clark and Henry Griljava competed in the discus throw.

EJ Uvslokk earned a point with his sixth place finish in the high jump with a bar clearing 5'5" effort.

Jacob Meyer nabbed a point with his sixth place finish in the pole vault with his height of 10'1".

Allgood, Sander and Edwards all competed in the long jump.

Mathis, Boyles and Edwards participated in the triple jump.

The state meet is staged at Omaha Burke Stadium. The Class C and D championship begins Friday and winds up on Saturday.

Gardner will compete in the girls long jump Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Rempel will contest the pole vault at noon Friday. Kobza has the discus throw at noon Friday. Gardner takes on the 100 meter dash field at 3:05 p.m. Friday. She runs the 200 meter dash at 6:30 p.m. She competes in the triple jump at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. M. Heusinkvelt has the shot put competition at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
