Love my crazy life

This weekend we had yet another trip to Omaha. It’s living up to its nickname, O-ma-gosh, because that’s exactly how I feel going there anymore. Oh my, goosh, do we have to! Jack’s graduation ceremony from Metropolitan Community College was Friday evening. I’m glad we were there early, because it took more than an hour to park, and then at least 20 minutes to walk from the parking lot and to find seats.

Thankfully Jack’s mom. Michelle. had saved us a couple of seats. The only problem was I was seated next to a nice but chatty couple from Omaha. This wouldn’t be an issue, for a normal person that is. Unfortunately, I am far from normal. Thankfully for me, they were both youth ministers, so they were accustomed to awkward conversations. We talked about our children, remodeling and the differences between city living and Nelson living. I, of course, said city people were a little weird, LOL, thankfully no offense was taken.

The ceremony was held at Baxter Arena with more than 800 graduates. George looked at me about 30 minutes in and asked, “How long do these things last?” I said, “About two hours,” but was thinking, how should I know? LOL! Thankfully my guess was pretty close. I’m kind of dreading going back in two weeks for his high school graduation, I’m sure it’s going to be more of the same. We will definitely be arriving earlier, because parking was a nightmare.

I survived my first Mother’s Day without my boys. George and the kids pooled funds to get me nice sunglasses. I’m a little scared to wear them, but they are nice. George picked up a gluten-free breakfast pizza, flower, and a card before I crawled out of bed on Sunday. Jacob called early via video chat. It was nice to see his face. He is attempting to grow a mustache, and after he teased his brother relentlessly for years, I couldn’t resist teasing him about his fuzzy caterpillar lip.

Once I was fully awake, around 11 a.m., we went to see my mom for a bit. I had gotten her flowers and a card and was proud of myself for keeping the flowers alive for more than 24 hours, although they needed to be delivered before I killed them. Then we headed to Oak to take a card to Mommy Pat and visit with Dad a little.

After that I worked at the pool, getting off all the little tree seeds out of the water and off the decks. Thankfully I had some help with that, Kasey and Jessica came down and made the cleanup much easier. Robert called while I was at the pool, and I got to tell him all about his brother’s mustache so he can call him and give him a little payback. We ended the evening with a trip to Hastings and dinner at Taco John’s, not exactly on my list of approved foods, but it was pretty yummy! X’s & O’s.
