Though the Superior Alumni Association hasn’t held an alumni banquet in recent years, Superior High School graduates and friends are not being forgotten this Memorial Day Weekend.
Starting in the 1950s the Superior Alumni Association built a tradition of hosting alumni banquets on the Saturday preceding Memorial Day. But that came to end with COVID.
This year the Superior Auditorium committee is trying to step in and fill the void by sponsoring an event especially for the alumni.
As part of the Memorial Weekend Festivities, the auditorium group is inviting Superior High School graduates and friends to begin gathering at the auditorium at 4 p.m. Saturday. A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. The baked potato bar will be open from 5:30 to 7:30.
Those Guys, a band which includes Lew Hunter’s grandson will provide live music for a dance from 7:30 to 11:30. And unlike when dances were originally held in the auditorium, the facility is now air conditioned.
Superior 3000 will be hosting a social time for alumni and friends at the Superior Chamber of Commerce office from 1 to 3 on Saturday afternoon as well.
So don’t think the alumni are being left out of this year’s festival.
Saturday will be a busy day at the auditorium which is hosting a vendor and crafter’s market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A barbecue lunch will be served at the auditorium between 11 and 1.
