Steven Laird

Steven Charles Laird was born on Sept. 19, 1952, in Superior, to Herman (Larry) and Opal (Ulsh) Laird. He died April 12, 2023, at his home in Hayden, Colorado.

Steve graduated from Superior High School in 1971. After high school, Steve worked in the oilfield and construction industries in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado. Steve was a highly skilled heavy equipment operator in Routt County, Colorado, since 1990.

Steve married Lori Tyer in Heiser, Kansas, on June 29, 1986, after being together since 1981. Steve and Lori were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie and Danielle.

Steve's biggest joys were his family and friends. He enjoyed watching grandsons, Taylor and Ghauge, participate in sports but especially when they wrestled. Another family favorite past time was playing cards and dominos with all members being fairly competitive. Steve and his mom often had debated rummy card playing sessions through the years that carried on especially after she moved to Hayden.

Another favorite pastime, and one that most will likely to remember him by, was riding and traveling on his classic Harley Davidson. Even though he hadn't been able to ride much recently, it was one of his goals to be back in the wind. Steve had many outdoor adventures while camping, fishing, hunting, riding snowmobiles, gold panning and off-roading.

Steve is survived by his wife, Lori; his daughters, Mrs. Rick Potter (Stephanie) and Danielle Laird, all of Hayden; his oldest grandson, Taylor Powell; grandsons, Ghauge and Mountain; granddaughter, Aspen; and step-grandsons, Joziah and Davyn; mother, Opal Laird of Hayden; sister, Mrs. Otho Burton (Nancy) of Denver, North Carolina; half-brothers, Tom Laird of Bryan, Texas, and Ron Laird of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Larry; his sister, Janet Oldham; chosen brother, Butch Dietrich; and his mom-in-law, Carolyn Miller.

The funeral for Steve was Tuesday, April 18, in the Haven Community Room in Hayden, Colorado.
