Esther Renz, the daughter of John and Edith (Fossler) Forden was born on Nov. 24, 1933, in Beatrice, Nebraska. She died April 29, 2023, at the St. Frances Medical Center at Grand Island, Nebraska, at the age of 89 years, 5 months, 5 days.
Esther was baptized on Dec. 4, 1933, at the Zion Lutheran Church near Pickrell, Nebraska. She was confirmed on June 26, 1949, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska by the Rev. E. R. Stolz. She attended grade school in Beatrice and Lincoln and attended Diller High School, Diller, Nebraska. On May 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to Loren Renz at Diller. This union was blessed with five children. Esther and Loren raised their family family near Cadams, Nebraska. In 1977, Loren became a manager of Superior-Deshler and they moved into Superior.
Esther was a member of the Cadams Club and the Centennial Lutheran Church of Superior. She enjoyed western movies and putting together puzzles. They both liked to travel, go on fishing trips, play cards and go to museums, auctions and antique stores. They always made time for their children and grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loren; a grandson, Christopher Renz; sister, Minnie Koenig; brother-in-laws, Duane Renz and Victor Kuhlmann; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Kuhlmann.
She is survived by her sons, Brian Renz and wife, Barbara, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Steven Renz and wife, Phyllis, and Bruce Renz and wife; Lori, all of Superior; Robert Renz and wife, Erika, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and her daughter, Edith, and husband, Gordon Wheeler, of Hastings, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren, Matthew and wife Tracia Renz, Mary Beth Renz, Bethany Renz, Ryan and wife Rachel Renz, Heather Silver, Holly Oman, Heidi and husband Nathan Doher, Eric and wife, Lisa, Wheeler, John and wife Sarah Wheeler, Gina and husband Ryan Ardiana, Kenny Walters, Aaron and wife Denise Renz, Luke Renz, Chelsea Renz, Zachary Renz, Alexander and wife Sydney Renz, Aubrey Renz, Alejandra Guzman and David Guzman; 21 great-grandchildren and two on the way; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Paul Koenig of Beatrice; sister-in-laws Jan Kuhlman of Superior and Doris Renz of Illinois; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, May 3, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Greg Schaffer officiating.
Music was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" with Vickie Nielsen as soloist and Heather Dahl as accompanist. A congregational hymn, "Lift High The Cross" was sung.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were John Wheeler, Eric Wheeler, Ryan Renz, Luke Renz, Zach Renz, Aaron Renz, Matthew Renz, Alex Renz and David Guzman. Honorary pallbearers were Gina Ardiana, Kenny Walters, Mary Beth Renz, Bethany Renz, Chelsea Renz, Aubrey Renz, Heather Silver, Holly Oman, Heidi Doher and Alejandra Guzman.
Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior.
A memorial has been established and gifts are suggested to go in care of the family.
