Cynthia Weber, RN, gives Alzheimer's Presentation

Thirty-five county residents were present for the Alzheimer’s presentation at Jewell County Senior Center in Mankato Friday. Cynthia Weber, RN and Alzheimer’s Program community support facilitator - from Republic County Hospital presented medical knowledge while the residents enjoyed lunch prepared by the main cook, Sammy Nance, and assistant cook, Susie Scott.

Weber offered an “Early Alzheimer’s” informational folder for each attendee. It included an assessment questionnaire to fill out that indicated any possibility of Alzheimer’s. Weber recommended discussing it with their physician if there were any concerns for Alzheimer’s present from the questionnaire included in the folder.

Carol Thomason, manager of the Jewell County Senior Center, invites speakers like Weber to inform the community on different topics. The meal program is available weekly at the senior center. For homebound residents, there is a group of volunteers who deliver meals. Just a few of the volunteers are Harlow Vader, Dale Park, Phyllis Briggs, Judy Bingham and Barb Snyder. But there are many more volunteers from the Mankato Christian Church, the Lutheran Church, the Methodist Church and the Catholic Church.

The presentation was informative providing medical knowledge and treatments about Alzheimer’s. Weber concluded her presentation by answering questions people had concerning resources about the various type of Alzheimer’s. .
