Charles Richard Russell, 76, of Beloit, Kansas, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died April 17, 2023. He was born Dec. 31, 1946, to Carl H. and Dorothy A. (Anderson) Russell in the Concordia Hospital, Concordia, Kansas, the 9th of 10 children.
He attended Courtland Elementary School and graduated from Courtland High School Class of 1965. He attended Beloit Vo-Tech, Beloit, before being drafted into the Army in May 1967. He served in Fort Still in Oklahoma until he was transferred to Vietnam. He returned home in July 1968. He then went to work for Kansas Bostwick Irrigation District. In addition to that, he farmed.
He married his high school sweetheart, Olive June Dunstan, in Formoso, June 5, 1966. They are the parents of Lori, Jodi and Larry.
In later years he joined his wife in retail in Superior. Then the two of them worked as sales reps covering the entire state of Nebraska until retiring in Beloit, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years; children, Lori and Mike Stenson, Courtland; Jodi and Adam Mosher, Beloit; and Larry Russell, Beloit; eight grandchildren: Brittany Stenson, Cassidy Stenson, Leslie (Dan) Robison, Riley Stenson, John (Sabrina) Mosher, Jared Mosher, Jeremy Mosher, Jayden Mosher; five great-grandchildren: Khonor Craig, Maverick Mosher, Owen Mosher, Everleigh Mosher and Nash Mosher. He is also survived by his sisters and brother: Beverly Sothers, Courtland; Maxine (Jan) Fredrickson, Quinter, Kansas; Penny (Don) True, Council, Grove, Kansas; Kenny (Mary) Russell, Abilene, Kansas; sisters-in-law Verlee Russell, Fort Collins, Colorado; Joanne Russell, Scandia, Kansas; and Kay Russell, Wamego, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., today (Thursday), April 27, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, with Pastor Brian Faust officiating.
Music will be recordings of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," "I Hope You Dance" and "Tumbling Tumbleweed."
Book signing visitation was held Wednesday, from 1 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., to greet friends.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren: Brittany Stenson, Cassidy Stenson, Leslie Stenson, Riley Stenson, John Mosher, Jared Mosher, Jeremy Mosher and Jayden Mosher. Honorary pallbearers were his great-grandchildren: Khonor Craig, Nash Mosher, Everleigh Mosher, Maverick Mosher and Owen Mosher.
Inurnment with Military Honors at 3:30 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery at Beloit with Kristi Arasmith officiating.
