Commissioners approve funds for landscape project

The Jewell County Commissioners met last Monday,April 17. Commissioners Brent Beck, Keith Roe and Ed Duskie, were present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, was present for the meeting.

Brian Shulda, Mankato fire chief, discussed the resolution for the burning ban. He asked to put some teeth into the violations section of the burning ban.

Cassie Thiessen, Post Rock Extension District horticulture agent, discussed a landscape project for the courthouse yard. She said the Master Gardener Program requires participants to volunteer in the county as part of program. She said they have a plan to spruce up the memorial area with perennials. The commissioners approved up to $300 for the landscape project in the courthouse yard.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed road and bridge maintenance. He discussed the year-end transfer for 2022 for his department. He has applied for another state bridge project. Keith Roe reported trees need to be removed in section 17 of Montana Township. Ed Duskie discussed a bridge concern.

Carla Waugh reported Dale Parks complained about the uneven front steps leading into the courthouse.
