The April meeting of the Jewell Chamber of Commerce was called to order by President Peg Bohnert. The Palmer Museum Committee was thanked for the meal they prepared. Forty-six members and guests were present
Brenda Langdon, a family resource management extension agent, was introduced as guest speaker by Kerma Crouse. Her presentation centered on nutrition. The Simply Produce program was reviewed. Langdon also introduced a new program for low-income seniors. They receive $50 of vouchers for use at participating farmer’s market vendors. The vouchers can be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, honey and herbs. Contact her for more information.
After the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were accepted, various items of old and new business were discussed. The Easter Egg Hunt was the biggest ever with more than 120 children enjoying the event. The fishing derby is tentatively set for Saturday, May 13. The fireworks will be held on Monday, July 3.
The 11 buffalo statues will be on display for the Big Kansas Road Trip. Maps will be available at Emerson Lake. Vendors will be in Maag Park. “Jewell - Where the Buffalo Roam” t-shirts are available.
The COC will prepare a noon lunch on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. Jane Pahls will look into repairing the street banners. The theme for the 2023 Corn Show will be “Celebrating a World of Music.”
Finally, Carol Thomason from Friendship Meals in Mankato, explained their meal program for seniors. Several questions were answered.
The next meeting will be Monday, Sept. 11.
