The Knights of Columbus members from Councils in District No. 23 in Nebraska enjoyed an evening out Friday evening sponsoring a "Priest Appreciation Dinner" for priests in their area.
District No. 23 is made up by Councils in Hebron, Lawrence, Fairbury, Superior and Geneva-Grafton-Shickley.
The evening was held at the St. Joseph parish hall in Geneva. The event began with a short Social, followed by the Rosary and dinner. District No. 23 Deputy, Roger Retzlaff provided a short program recognizing the importance of the priests in the everyday lives of all communities.
Nebraska State K C Deputy, Matt Richardson and Nebraska's Executive Secretary, Ray Gueggenberger were on hand to help honor the priests. Also present were KC Insurance agents: Tony Swanson, State Field Agent for Central and Western Nebraska; and Brian Almond, agent for many Councils in District No. 23.
Priests attending were: Father Leo Seiker, Father Harlan Waskowiak, Father John Birkel, Father Brendan Kelly, Father Jamie Hottovy, Father Steven Major.
Appreciation Dinners for priests have been sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in Nebraska's larger cities in the past. However, this was one of the first held in rural Nebraska.
