Repairs continue on Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence

One hundred years of service is quite a duty for any structure, let alone one put out on the great plains of Nebraska. However, the Sacred Heart parish church in Lawrence will be observing its 100th birthday in 2024 and it is showing its age.

On the outside, the top of the twin towers are 80 feet from the ground. On the inside from ceiling to floor the height is 45 feet. The picture above shows the scaffolding now in the north end of the church building needed to reach damaged plaster.

It seems that the plaster damaged was more severe and extensive than originally expected but the majority (but not all) of the plater repair work is completed at this time.

The altars and Crucifixion group of statues in the north end of the building were removed to allow for the renovation to continue.

Parish members have contributed a lot of man-hours of work to date, but completion of the renovation work is still some time off.

The completion aim is December, 2024 on the 100th anniversary of the original dedication of the church.
