Leonard Rex Jeardoe, 74, of Hebron, son of Alva and Geneva (Kasl) Jeardoe, was born on June 9, 1948, in Belleville. He died Friday, March 10, at Holmes Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Leonard grew up in Belleville, attending school and graduating from Belleville High School with the Class of 1966. After graduation he attended Beloit Vo-Tech School in Beloit and became a lineman.
Leonard enlisted with the United States Navy on June 24, 1968, the day before he’d be drafted. He served in the Navy Seabees from 1968 until January 1970 with an honorable discharge.
Leonard was an avid hunter. He taught both of his children gun safety, how to reload shells and how to hunt.
Leonard loved the outdoors, to golf and playing cards, Nebraska football, any type of racing events, especially the ones he could attend in person with family and friends, NASCAR on TV, or watched live in person, or just his time with family and friends.
Leonard was an active member of many organizations: Belleville Volunteer Fire Department; Spring Creek Gun Club; Coyote Club; founder of the “Cornhusker Rattlesnake Club;” Isaac Walton League; Hebron Country Club; 4 Seasons Pheasants Forever; Bob’s Recreation Card Club; Lifetime member of the VFW; 50 years continuous member of the American Legion; and 51 years Hebron Volunteer Fire Department.
Leonard worked 40 years for Nebraska Public Power District before retiring in 2012. Leonard and Deanna traveled to many places together before his health took a turn the latter part of 2020.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Deanna, of Hebron; daughter, Mrs. Kurtis Wiemers (Kristi) of Hebron; son, Patrick of Beatrice; one granddaughter, Kalynn Jeardoe of Beatrice; mother, Geneva Jeardoe of Belleville; sister, Carla Jeardoe of Nelson; brother, Ivan Carver, Lake Havasu City, Arizona; brother, Curtis Carver, Nelson; and aunt, Dora Faye Jeardoe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alva Jeardoe; brother, Delmar Jeardoe; and niece, Danielle Jeardoe.
