James Doyle

James Ross Doyle, 88, of Guide Rock, died on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023. He was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Rule, Texas, the oldest child to Ross and Etha (Carter) Doyle. He lived in Palo Pinto County, Texas, for seven years. Then the family moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Savannah, Oklahoma. The family moved to Nebraska in 1948, where he attended school in Guide Rock. He began working in 1948, at the age of 14. In 1953, he joined Bushman Construction and contributed early work on the building of Sherman Dam near Loup City.

James married Miriam Patterson on May 24, 1953, in Guide Rock. His death came just three months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary. To this union three children were born, Debra, Sheri and Kevin.

His construction work led the family to live in Superior, Cambridge, Hardy and Palisade; finally settling in St. Paul where the family lived while his children grew. He owned and operated Doyle Construction, then worked for Givens Construction and BRB Construction. He worked in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio and Arkansas. In 2008, James retired from BRB and he and Miriam returned to Guide Rock. Not one to sit idle, Jim worked occasionally well into his 80s for KenWorks, Inc., Lemburg Tree Removal and Don Duffy.

Jim enjoyed fishing, bird watching and hunting Morel mushrooms along the banks of the Republican River.

Preceding him in death were his parents; all four siblings, Joe, Barbara, Audyne and Larry; and grandchildren Jessica Hatten and Jeremy Lemburg.

Surviving are his wife, Miriam of Guide Rock; daughters, Deb Lemburg of Wolbach, Sheri (Kenny) Lukasiewicz of Ayr, and son, Kevin Doyle of Hebron; grandchildren, Audrey (Brad) Thomsen, James (Denise) Lemburg, granddaughter-in-law, Retha Lemburg; Matt (Summer) Lukasiewicz; Lacey (Jon) Hughes; Lindsey (Travis) Haden; Trent (Anneka) Lukasiewicz; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, with a great-great grandson due in June.

His funeral was Saturday, March 4, at the Revival Tabernacle Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Darrell Sutton officiating. Interment was at the Guide Rock Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud in charge of arrangements.
