Scott's

Dan and Terry Thompson Scott will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 7. This year will also mark the 42nd year of their business Scott's Sales and Service.

Terry is a Superior High School graduate who was born and raised in Superior. She met Dan when he arrived in Superior to serve as the engineer at Channel Four television. Dan is a native of Oakley, Kan. After graduating from high school, he attended electonics school in Kansas City, Mo. He accepted a job offer from Channel 4 located east of Superior as the station engineer. He was drafted into the United States Army. He attended the advanced microwave communications school at Fort Monmouth, N.J. After his training, he was assigned to an army base in Germany.

Dan and Terry married and she joined him in Germany in 1973. Their first child, Corey, was born in Germany. The family returned to Superior in January, 1976.

Dan returned to Channel 4 as the engineer. He also took on repairing televisions part-time at Christensen and Son. When the business sold, the Scotts acquired the Whirlpool appliance dealership in addition to TV repairs. They were initially located in a West Third Street building next to the Conoco station. The building had also been home to a number of beauty salons and barbers over the years. It was also a cafe.

The business prospered and the need for more space soon arose. They moved to a storefront on Central Avenue which had been the home of the Victory Cafe.

The new location allowed for more display room for the appliance and television products they sold and serviced.

The Scott's have also sold, installed and serviced heating and air conditioning systems.

With the advent of digital televisions, the need for television repairs dried up as they are manufactured to be disposed of when their components go bad.

The business is undergoing a major makeover at the present time. The current Central Avenue location is for sale.

As Dan and Terry near retirement, the business is moving to a new location. They purchased the former Ford tractor dealership located on East Third Street near Superior Implement. The Scotts are exiting the appliance sales portion of their business. Supply chain issues have left them unable to acquire the inventory they want to carry from Whirlpool.

Troy Scott, a 1997 Superior High School graduate, has been working in the family business since he was in high school. After graduation from high school, Troy attended Southeast Community College at the Milford campus. He studied heating, ventilation and air conditioning repair, installation and repair.

Troy is married to Becky, a RN at Brodstone Healthcare. The couple are the parents of Aubree and Boone.

The move to the new location will allow Troy to focus on the HVAC aspect of the business. They also sell, install and service water filtration systems as well as providing plumbing services. Hot water heaters are another product they sell, install and service. The new location allows ample space to assemble duct work and store inventory.

Dan will continue to service appliances the business has sold but wants to slow down the pace. Terry will assist Troy in the office.

Dan has been an active member of the community. He served as scoutmaster for 19 years during which time the troop produced 13 Eagle Scouts, the organizations highest achievement. He was a member of the Lion's Club for more than 25 years. He is a member of the American Legion while Troy is active in the Sons of the American Legion. Terry is the treasurer of the Candy Cane Lane committee. Dan serves as a Chamber of Commerce Ambassador and he and Terry are board members.

The Scott's expect to be in their new location by the beginning of summer.
