Alice Marie Tyler, 75 years of age, formerly of Hays, Kansas, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on Dec. 11, 1947, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Harold and Alma (Loyd) Gray.
She was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School in 1965, Phillipsburg, Kansas. She went on to attend Wichita Business College, Wichita, Kansas, and Fort Hays State University Hays, Kansas, where she received her bachelor's degree in business. She later returned to earn her master's degree in special education from Fort Hays State University.
Alice was united in marriage to James Tyler on Jan. 5, 1973, in Phillipsburg, at the Saint James Saint Phillips Catholic Church.
She was a special education elementary teacher in various communities including Montezuma, Kansas, Dodge City, Kansas, in Russell, Kansas at the Bickerdyke Elementary School USD No. 407. She also taught at Lakewood middle school in Salina.
Her hobbies included time with her family and friends, crafts, floral creations, pets and reading.
Alice is survived by her husband, James Tyler, San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Trisa Gonzolas, San Antonio,Texas; son, Travis Tyler (Rachel), Poulsbo, Washington; Kristopher Tyler, San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren, Madeline Delling (James), Tyler Gonzolas (Miriam), Nicole Gonzolas, Elijah, Noah, A.J. and Shawn Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Amelia Delling; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Alma Gray; brothers, Arden Gray and Donald McQueen.
Visitation was from 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, at the Melby Mortuary with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 8, at the Melby Mortuary in Mankato, with Pastor Jim Rice officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato.
