SCEDD picks Superior as honor town

Superior is the featured community in the annual report for 2022 prepared by the South Central Economic Development District.

As the agency’s 2022 Community of Champions honoree, two photos of Superior’s central business district are included on the annual report’s cover. Several additional pictures are included in the report along with a timeline of community projects. That timeline begins with 2010 and includes the following:

2010

Community needs assessment survey taken to gather resident input. Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds obtained to pay for the removal of three vacant downtown buildings.

2011

Planning grant received to develop a comprehensive plan. Public works grant awarded to upgrade the downtown storm sewer system.

2012

Nuisance abatement program started.

2013

Planning grant award for utility system study.

2014

Community needs assessment survey taken. Nebraska Investment Finance Housing Study Grant received.

2015

Governor’s Showcase Community Award winner. Named a Nebraska Leadership Certified Community. First phase downtown revitalization competed. Phase II grand awarded to improved commercial facades, downtown business district infrastructure and lighting. Planning grant awarded for sewer and storm drainage.

2016

Owner occupied rehabilitation project funds awarded for eight houses.

2019

Innovation and demonstration grant received to build six houses as part of Project Boom. Community attitude survey conducted,

2020

Public works grant received to improve sidewalks and pedestrian mobility. Planning grant received to study existing recreation amenities.

2021

Recertified as a Nebraska Leadership Certified Community.

2022

Infill developer’s guide created and distributed to contractors to encourage housing development.
