Love my crazy life

By Teraesa Bruce

We started working on our old house and met the new neighbors to the north. They are nice folks. Pam even brought me flowers for Valentine’s Day. Her son, Kenny, has been helping George get the ancient appliances out of the basement. There is a washer, dryer, furnace and two ringer washers, none of which fit up the stairwell, so there is no telling how long they have been there.

We have big plans for the little house and hope to give the ol’ gal a new lease on life. The idea is to sell her to help fund our progress in the money pit. We have so many memories in that little house, but it’s silly to hold on to it just for the memories. She is not “move-in ready.” I will not let her go in her present condition. Our progress is slow as the heat and water are off, but as the weather warms, things will speed up quite a bit. That is the plan anyway.

The GirlScouts are out peddling cookies again. The two girls I used to look after stopped by and were a little disappointed in me this year. They only have one gluten-free cookie. Since George has to avoid sugar and we have no children at home, my order was small. I’m glad I kept it small. I’ve felt “snacky,” and mine are almost gone. LOL!

You will be delighted (insert eye roll) to hear I made a decision and chose semi-gloss paint for the bedroom furniture. Now I just need to pick out some hardware (another eye roll). I did find curtains, but now I need a different curtain rod. I need to choose hardware for the dressers first to know what finish I want for a rod or light fixture. (pause for a deep sigh, eye roll, and head shake). This has turned into a much larger project than planned.

Spring cleaning is just around the corner. Does anyone else still do that? I can’t wait to open the house and let some fresh air in here. I’m almost giddy about tearing it apart room by room and exercising the demons. Well, maybe not demons, but I have a couple of good-sized dust bunnies hiding behind the china cabinet that I can’t seem to get without moving it.

I have not been doing so well with my diet and exercise the last couple of months. I have a few extra pounds that refuse to give up and leave. I’m so disappointed in myself because I was doing so well. As soon as I polish off this last box of cookies, I will be good, I swear. Well, maybe. Until next week, X’s & O’s.
