The Nelson American Legion Family held their monthly meeting Thursday, in the club meeting room. During the joint portion of the meeting, ongoing services to veterans and active military members were discussed, including the Buddy Check Project and the Veterans’ crisis line.
Roger Williams, District 10 chaplain, was in attendance and outlined his projects for the Nelson community and the entire district. Roger is planning to make visits to veterans in long term care facilities and the homebound as well as being available to visit any who are in any type of crisis. Any individual who would like to talk to him or who knows of someone who is in need of a caring ear, is urged to call Roger at 402-469-9794 and can be assured of confidentiality.
District 10 convention is being held in Wilcox on Feb. 18. Members were urged to attend to keep up to date and forge relationships with other Units.
Following the joint meeting, Legion and SAL members inspected the building to make note of and begin planning for needed repairs. They commended Bill and Pam Riley for their efforts in clean up and general small repairs.
The Auxiliary discussed potential Girls State candidates and will be scheduling interviews for interested high school juniors. Plans for the Mardi Gras party to be held on Feb. 17, were finalized. This is a community event and is the first of several that are being considered for the upcoming year. Like us on Facebook to be kept up to date.
