The Superior High School boys and girls wrestling teams were in action Thursday and Friday.
The girls and boys teams competed at the Twin Valley-Fort Kearney Conferences tournament at Kenesaw Thursday. Superior is not a member of either conference but because they have wrestlers from Deshler on the team as part of a cooperative program they were eligible to compete. It was the final regular season meet for the girls team.
Several Wildcat wrestlers competed in the junior varsity field at the Adams Central Invitational Friday in Hastings. This was the final regular season meet for the boys team.
The girls competed at the District 3 meet at Lincoln Southeast High School Friday and Saturday. For the first time, Superior will be represented by the girls side at the state meet in Omaha, Thursday, Feb. 16 to Saturday, Feb. 18. The girls team finished in 19th place, with 35 points, in the 25 team field.
The girls finished tied for third place in the five team field with two points. The boys took eighth place in the 14 team field with 77.5 points.
Cheyenne Stacey took second place in the 110 pound weight bracket. Carlee Hinz held second place and earned two team points at the 135 pound mark.
Stacy took third place and earned 20 team points in the 115 pound weight bracket. She enters the state meet with a 23-11 record.
Hinz took fourth place at the 135 pound weight mark and earned 15 team points. She has a 22-11 record.
Holden McDonald grabbed fourth place and 15 team points in the 120 pound weight bracket at Kenesaw.
Cole Rughe competed at 126 pounds. He took sixth place at Adams Central in the 120 pound JV class. Hayden Neeman took second place honors and 21.5 team points in the 132 pound weight bracket.
Cole Laaker was awarded four team points for his efforts at the 138 pound mark. He earned no points at the Adams Central JV meet. Cooper Sheely competed at the Adams Central meet.
Lincoln Sander competed at 145 pounds at Kenesaw and Adams central. He earned no team points
Aaron Allgood earned eight team points at the 152 pound weight bracket. Cooper Ehlers finished in third place at the Adams JV meet.
Kyler Boyles picked up the 16 team points for fourth place in the 160 pound weight bracket. David Hodges competed at &0 pounds at Kenesaw and 160 pounds at the Adams Central meet.
Christian Osweiler competed at 220 pounds class at Kenesaw.
Henry Griljava scored a fourth place finish at the 285 pound mark good for 13 team points.
This weekend will determine if all the season long hard work and dedication for the boys translates to a berth the state meet. Superior travels to Norfolk Catholic High School Friday and Saturday for the District C-3 meet. The Wildcats will be competing with wrestlers from Centennial, Central City, Crofton-Bloomfield, Cross County-Osceola, Doniphan-Trumbull, Fairbury, Hastings St. Cecilia, Lincoln Lutheran, Palmyra, South Central USD 5, St. Paul, Syracuse, Tekamah-Herman, Tri County, Twin River and Yutan.
