Ute needs more volunteers

The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) Board met Jan. 30, at the Mankato Christian Church and on ZOOM. The meeting was called to order by Thadd Hinkle. Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Phyllis Christie, Janis McDill, Lisa Goodheart, Janelle Greene and Sarah Ortman, Kristin Underwood and Linda and Virgil Jones by Zoom.

The minutes of the December meeting were accepted as corrected. Janis McDill presented the treasurer’s report, stating the last two movies were shown two weekends each. She said she received a bill for the new projector lamp and an estimate for the shutter repair. Janis will ask what is covered in the warranty we pay for yearly.

Thadd said he would install the new projector lamp. More volunteers are needed to run the theater.

In new business, Janis is trying to book “The Fablemans,” “A Man Called Otto.” “80 for Brady” and “Missing.” The theater passed the health inspection. There was a water leak from the apartment above the theater which resulted in ceiling tiles coming down and damage to a couple of seats. Mankato Plumbing has turned the damage in to their insurance. The Mankato City Office gave the personal property list to Janis. Lisa will discuss it with the appraiser’s office. Lisa Goodheart reminded the board that the Big Kansas Road Trip is coming to Jewell County May 4 - 7 and would like the theater to be open. It was decided to show the documentary on Mankato created for the 150th celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. She will add this as an attraction on the BKRT website.

Phyllis Christie received a request from NCK CASA to show a free movie in April using a DVD. The purpose is to make the public aware of child abuse. CASA will purchase popcorn from the theater. Sarah Ortman moved to offer them April 22 to show the movie. The board approved the request. Someone will need to run the DVD player.

A film based on the book “Sod and Stubble” will start production soon. Ken Burns will shoot the movie in several nearby counties, and discussion was held on offering the Ute Theater for the premier. Lisa will contact Von Rothenberger to make the offer. Contact Phyllis Christie if you are interested in volunteering.

The next meeting will be Feb. 27.
