The Jewell County Commissioners met Jan. 30, with commissioners Brent Beck, Keith Roe and Ed Duskie present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk was present for the meeting.
The following were present for the office head meeting and provided an update for their department: Chris Petet, custodian; Alexandria Pierce, county attorney; Anna Porter, county appraiser; Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator; and Don Jacobs, sheriff. Those absent: Cindy Becker, health administrator; Brenda Eakins, treasurer; Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension District director; Joel Elkins, general superintendent; Amanda Davis, register of deeds; and Travis Garst, solid waste director.
Don Jacobs discussed personnel. He had a fuel contract with Randall Farmer’s Cooperative Union for 2,000 gallons at $2.859 per gallon for a period of June 1, 2023, to Oct. 31, 2023.
Anna Porter said the ag values for 2023 have decreased, but building values are increasing.
Kevin Peroutek reported for emergency preparedness that he attended the advance incident command training. He has submitted the LEPC yearly reports.
Alex Pierce reported one new felony criminal case in addition to the two felony cases in December. She also reported a case for an inmate off grid crimes, one juvenile case, traffic cases and bad check cases. She discussed the detention center issues with Microsoft Teams.
Carla Waugh reported working on the KPERS audit, W-2’s, 1099’s, tax distribution and the worker’s comp audit.
Keith Roe attended the North Central Regional Planning Committee meeting at Beloit.
Ed Duskie attended the new county commissioner’s training provided by KAC along with Brent Beck. This concluded the office head meeting.
The commissioners approved the Randall Farmer’s Coop Union fuel contract of 2,000 gallons at $2.859 per gallon for a period of June 1, 2023, to Oct. 31, 2023, for the Sheriff’s department.
The commissioners went into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. Regular session resumed with no action.
Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed working on snow removal.
