Beguin serving as NC service officer

Nuckolls County veterans have a new service officer.

A resident of Superior, Wes Beguin, became responsible for veteran services in Nuckolls County on Dec. 20. Beguin may be new to the office but he is not new to Nuckolls County.

He attended school in Superior through his sixth, seventh and eighth grade years before the family moved to Concordia where he attended and graduated from high school.

After his high school graduation, he joined the Navy and became a Seabee. His five years with the navy took to him to places liked Cuba, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, Germany, Ireland and Japan. He was discharged in 2012 and was married in 2013.

He studied wildlife biology at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

His wife, Brandy, joined the navy nursing corps in 2012 and had assignments in Mississippi, North Carolina and California. After she retired from active service, she joined the naval reserve and continues to serve in the reserves. The Beguin family decided a move to Superior was in order.

The Beguins have three children, Waylan is in the second grade, Harley is two years old and Lola is 10 months.

Wes’ mother, Bert Beguin, has been employed by Brodstone Healthcare for more than 23 years. She is a transcriptionist. When Wes was a youngster, his father, Craig, managed the local cooperative elevator.

The veterans service office located in the Nuckolls County Courthouse at Nelson is open from 8 to 4 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
