SHS girls win streak at eight games

The Superior High School girls basketball team is in peak form as they extended their consecutive win streak to eight games when they downed Doniphan-Trumbull 50-31, at Doniphan, Friday. Superior visited Deshler Tuesday for a game with the Dragons. Game results were unavailable at press time.

Superior held the pesky Cardinals at arms length for the duration of the game. The Wildcats enjoyed a 22-15 lead after two quarters. They added a point to that lead in the third quarter, taking a 36-28 margin into the final period of play. Superior shut down the Cardinals offense, holding them to three points while scoring 13 to post their 14th win of the season against two losses.

Sadie Cornell put away 19 points to lead the Superior scoring chart against Doniphan-Trumbull. Halle Bargen and Ella Gardner accounted for 10 points each. Laci Kirchhoff stepped up with eight points. Ariana Heusinkvelt dropped through three points for the Wildcats. Bargen, Cornell and Kirchhoff hauled away eight rebounds each. Gardner came away with seven rebounds. Heusinkvelt took away three rebounds. Madison Heusinkvelt handled one rebound.

The Wildcats travel to Odell, Friday for a game with Diller-Odell. Superior hosts a Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament game Tuesday when they play the winner of Monday's Sandy Creek-Sutton game. Should Superior win, they would play Thursday, Feb. 2, at Centennial High School in Utica.
