The Superior High School girls basketball team extended its win streak to six games when they downed Sandy Creek, 55-37, at Superior Saturday. Win number five was over the Heartland Huskies, 58-39, at Superior, last Tuesday.
They made it seven consecutive wins when they squeaked by the Hastings St. Cecilia Bluehawks 36-35 at Superior.
Superior jumped out to a 38-14 lead after two quarters against Heartland. They cruised to their 11th win of the season 59-39.
The Wildcats dominated Sandy Creek over the first three quarters of play, 50-25. Superior coasted to a 55-37 win, their 12th of the season against two losses.
Superior started strong against the Bluehawks. They held a 20-15 lead after two quarters of play. The Bluehawks chipped away a point in the third period to trail 32-28. Superior held off the Bluehawk comeback challenge long enough for time to expire and record their 13th win of the season. The victory marked the first win for Superior against their rival Bluehawks since 2001.
Sadie Cornell regained her scoring touch to lead Superior against Heartland with 21 points. Ella Gardner dropped through 13 points. Lilly Edwards hit for eight points. Laci Kirchhoff contributed seven points. Halle Bargen dropped through four points. Ariana Heusinkvelt netted three points. Madison Heusinkvelt scored two points. Edwards climbed the boards for nine rebounds. Bargen and Madison Heusinkvelt nailed down seven rebounds apiece. Ariana Heusinkvelt posted six rebounds. Gardner gathered up four rebounds. Faith Butler and Ava Kirchhoff collected two rebounds each. Rayne Biltoft and Cornell snagged a rebound each.
Cornell led the Wildcat scoring against Sandy Creek with 16 points. Bargen lifted 13 points for the game. Gardner added 11 points. Laci Kirchhoff accounted for 10 points. Ariana Heusinkvelt scored five points. Bargen grabbed nine rebounds. Madison Heusinkvelt and Laci Kirchhoff provided five rebounds each. Butler nabbed four rebounds. Ariana Heusinkvelt landed three rebounds. Biltoft, Cornell and Edwards grabbed a rebound each.
Cornell led Superior in scoring against St. Cecilia's with 15 points. Gardner backed her up with 10 points. Bargen slipped through nine points. Madison Heusinkvelt scored two points. Gardner cleared the boards for seven rebounds. Madison Heusinkvelt added five rebounds. Cornell snagged three rebounds. Butler and Laci Kirchhoff each grabbed a rebound
The Wildcats visit Doniphan, Friday, for a game with the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals. Superior travels to Deshler Tuesday for a contest with the Dragons.
