After 29 years as a membership clerk at Rolling Hills Electric Co-Op, Mankato resident, Shirley Becker, will be retiring on Feb. 1.
Prior to joining Rolling HIlls, Becker worked at the treasurer's office in the courthouse. In the membership clerk position she currently has, Becker had to be able to talk to people over the phone and in person. "I got to know a lot of people both ways. And I enjoyed that," Becker said. "I will miss the customers I got to know."
Becker has one son, Danny, and three grandchildren, Knox, Mason and Remi. She made the decision to retire because she wanted to have more time with her grandchildren. She also wanted to be able to do things while she is able to. After retirement, Becker plans to do things with her grandchildren and work on several quilt projects. Becker's hobbies are quilting and reading.
Becker enjoys living and working in a small community because people help each other out, even if you aren't related and able to know people on a more personal level. Becker is inspired by her quilting friends. "When we are together, we share ideas and have a great time," Becker said.
