L-N boys basketball
One was close and one wasn't but they were both losses for the Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team at the Hershey Holiday Tournament Thursday and Friday.
The Raiders lost a close 51-47 opening round game to the Hershey Panthers. The Raiders strutted out to a 17-5 first quarter lead. The Panthers roared back but the Raiders held a 24-19 lead at the mid-point of the game. An uninspired third quarter doomed the Raiders. Hershey scored 16 points while holding the Raiders to four points to take a 35-28 into the fourth quarter. It was a little late for the Raiders as they scored 19 points but Hershey added 16 points to eke out a 51-47 win over Lawrence-Nelson.
The Class C 1 Gothenberg Swedes used a dominant third and fourth quarter performance to smother the Raiders 49-24. The Raiders held a 15-14 lead at the half. That was their last lead. The Swedes poured though 35 second half points while holding the Raiders to 9 points to hand Lawrence-Nelson the fifth loss of the season against three wins.
The Raiders hosted McCool Junction at Nelson Tuesday with game results unavailable at publication time.
Krayton Kucera led the Raiders scoring with 20 points against Hershey. Nolan Ostdiek donated 11 points to the cause. Toby Kotinek and Clay Williams scored four points apiece. Bayln Bargen added three points. Tyson Kotinek and Erik Wheeland were good for two points each. Connor Janda scored one point with a free throw. Ostdiek hit the boards for seven rebounds. Kucera collected four rebounds. Williams and Devyn Zikmund produced two rebounds apiece. Bargen, Sawyer Cox, Janda, Toby Kotinek, Tyson Kotinek and Wheeland handled a rebound apiece.
Kucera pumped through 10 points against Gothenburg. Ostdiek contributed six points. Toby Kotinek hit for three points. Bargen and Williams score two points each.. Janda hit a free throw for a point. Ostdiek produced seven rebounds. Toby Kotinek landed four rebounds. Kucera and Keaton Mazour nailed down a rebound each. Wheeland nabbed a rebound.
The Raiders visit Giltner Thursday for a game. Lawrence-Nelson crosses the border, Tuesday, when they travel to Mankato for a contest with Rock Hills.
