Ted Delka

Ted Edwin Delka was born Sept. 1, 1939, the third child to Harold and Olive (Smith) Delka. Ted grew up going to country school south of Red Cloud and later in Nuckolls County. He went to work as a very young man for Clint Warnecke. He lived with Clint and Minnie for a time and learned a great deal about farming and caring for livestock from Clint.  

In October of 1956, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Japan and Korea. After his honorable discharge from the Army in November of 1959, he returned to Nebraska. On Feb. 1, 1960, he married Myrtie (Bailey). He worked iron for several years and then decided to do what he really loved and bought the farm west of Guide Rock. He had several different jobs while farming which included serving as a Webster County Commissioner for two terms from 1986 to 1994. He also was a school bus driver and in later years was a ditch rider for Bostwick Irrigation District.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Myrtie; his brothers, Neil, Don and Billie; sister-in-laws, Diane Delka, Judy Bailey and Bobbie Bailey; brother-in-laws, Ward Bailey, Jerry Bailey and Melvin Bracken.  

Survivors include his children Ted Delka Jr. of Guide Rock, Mrs. Mitch Watson (Edie) of Red Cloud, and Leo Delka of Doniphan;  brothers, Frank Raymond, Dale and Joe; sisters, Elaine, Betty and Doris; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

His funeral was Saturday, at the Guide Rock Gymnasium with Pastor Matt Ehlers officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Bostwick Cemetery.
